STAR WOMEN

A collaboration between Yanantin, Cecilia Brunson Projects and Claudia Alarcón & Silät.

The piece takes as its point of departure Kates tsinhay [Mujeres estrellas/Star-Women] (2023), a work by Claudia Alarcón & Silät rooted in the Wichí myth of the star-women. According to the story, women were once stars in the sky who descended to Earth each night along chaguar threads they had woven themselves, coming down to feed by stealing the fish caught by men. When the men discovered this, they cut the threads, leaving the women on Earth.

Conceived as a collector’s object, Star women is an intimate expression of Claudia Alarcón & Silät's cosmology, translated through Yanantin's devotion to exceptional craftsmanship. Presented in a strict edition of 30 in yellow gold and 30 in white gold.

Claudia Alarcón (b. 1989, Argentina) is an Indigenous textile artist from the La Puntana community of Wichí people in northern Salta, Argentina. Salta, tucked into the foothills of the Andes, creates a meaningful resonance with Yanantin’s own story, as each of our pieces is handcrafted by master goldsmiths in the Peruvian Andes.

Alarcón’s artistic practice takes collective form through Silät, which she leads and which was formed in 2023, bringing together one hundred women weavers from different generations across the Alto la Sierra and La Puntana Wichí communities. Silät is the collective expression of Alarcón’s artistic practice, shaped through the shared knowledge, techniques and visual language of the Wichí women with whom she works.

Alarcón has received significant recognition for her work. In 2022, she became the first Indigenous woman to receive a prize at Argentina’s National Salon of Visual Arts, and that same year was awarded the Ama Amoedo Acquisition Prize at Pinta Miami. In 2025, Claudia Alarcón & Silät were named Emerging Artist of the Year by ARTnews. Most recently, they presented Living, Weaving, their first solo exhibition at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP). Curated by Adriano Pedrosa and Laura Cosendey, the exhibition brought together 25 works.

  •  Installation view, Nitsäyphä: Wichí Stories, Cecilia Brunson Projects, 2023

“For us, this collaboration makes possible a new way of allowing our Silät and our message to travel, so that they can continue to find bodies to accompany. Just as the hilulis-yicas ensured that Wichí textiles would always be worn on the body, today the echo of the Star Women, transformed into a piece of jewellery with the support of Cecilia Brunson Projects and Yanantin, represents a beautiful expansion of the collective practice we foster and support.

We are inspired by the unexpected paths that our relationship with art continually opens up, creating new ways of carrying stories forward, allowing them to move beyond their original context and into new forms, spaces and lives.”

Claudia Alarcón and Silät

“For me, this collaboration with Yanantin comes from a very special idea: bringing the universe of Silät and Claudia Alarcón into an intimate and personal scale. Their work is deeply connected to the land and to a symbolic language passed down through generations of women.

Transforming part of that imagery, in this case the myth of the Star-Woman, into a piece of jewellery allows that story to move beyond the exhibition space and accompany us in a completely different way, close to the body. It is a small work of art to carry with you, but also a way of connecting with a story, a community, and a way of seeing the world.”
